AM-CC Celebrates Its First CPI of 2026, Packed with Participation and New Challenges for the Year
Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura (AM-CC) held its first Insular Political Council (CPI) session of 2026 on Wednesday. The event served as a platform to introduce the new work plan to its members and public officials, aimed at guiding the party’s actions throughout the year. A central theme of this program is preparing to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Asamblea Majorera, scheduled for 2027.
The work plan also includes the organization of training sessions tailored for both members and public officials. These sessions will cover key ideological concerns of the nationalist formation, helping to reinforce knowledge and address fundamental concepts related to identity, demographic challenges, communication, innovation, and new technologies.
Additionally, there is a strong focus on reactivating the project ‘Fuerteventura te necesita,’ which aims to respond to the demands of the island’s population by fostering new spaces for debate and sectoral exchange in areas like primary industries, healthcare, roads, and land use, among others.
Through these initiatives, AM-CC aims to progress towards a participatory island model focused on constructing a sustainable Fuerteventura that is deeply respectful of its territorial identity. The party highlighted that protecting the island’s territory has long been a primary identifier of their mission.
“Preventing spaces like the Saladar de Jandía and Lobos Island from being occupied by large hotel complexes has been possible due to the historical advocacy by the men and women of Asamblea Majorera,” they stated. They further emphasized that, thanks to the PTEOTI (Plan de Ordenación Territorial y Económica de Infraestructuras), the construction of 55,000 hotel beds was halted, asserting that the island should not bear additional tourist capacity.
During the meeting, the significant demographic growth experienced by the island in the past 20 years was also discussed, alongside the necessity to regulate population increases and move toward a residency law. Measures aimed at alleviating tourism’s impact, such as introducing an ecotax and halting new hotel constructions, were also debated. “All matters discussed in these assemblies are essential for advancing toward the island model we champion,” they noted.
Regarding the energy model for Fuerteventura, AM-CC reiterated that the rollout of renewable energies should not come at the expense of indiscriminate land use. The political body advocates for utilizing anthropized areas and suggests using building rooftops and creating energy communities as sustainable alternatives.
Additionally, they emphasized the necessity of enabling residents to install solar panels on their homes. “This is the most effective route for residents to see real reductions in their electricity bills while promoting efficient and environmentally respectful renewable energy investments that do not occupy land,” they added.
At the conclusion of the session, the Insular Political Council expressed its support for Candelaria Umpiérrez following her announcement to step down as mayor of Tuineje. The team acknowledged and appreciated her efforts during what has been an exceedingly complex mandate, highlighting her loyalty, dedication, and commitment to the political formation.
