The XI Jandía Bike: A Thrilling Celebration of Cycling in Pájara
This past weekend marked a significant event in the cycling calendar of the Canary Islands as the Ayuntamiento de Pájara, through its Sports Council, hosted the XI Jandía Bike. Drawing in close to 250 participants across two days of fierce competition, this event has firmly established itself as a must-attend for cycling enthusiasts and a highlight in the island’s sporting events.
An Event of Collaboration and Passion
The success of the XI Jandía Bike was made possible through the collaboration of several local entities, including Alisio Gestiones Sociodeportiva and the Club Ciclista Cofete, among others. Held on April 11th and 12th, the event featured two distinct stages designed to challenge even the most seasoned cyclists. The first day brought a grueling 8.5-kilometer time trial, known for testing riders’ power and stamina, while the second day featured a 46-kilometer rally that offered beautiful views alongside challenging terrains.
Recognizing Participant Resilience
José Benito Alonso, the Sports Councilor, emphasized the remarkable effort and endurance demonstrated by the participants throughout these demanding stages. He noted that the XI Jandía Bike has not only maintained its reputation but continues to grow in participation and prestige with each passing year. Alonso’s comments reflect the event’s dual role as both a competitive platform and a community celebration of sportsmanship.
Acknowledging Collaborative Efforts
Alejandro Jorge, the mayor of Pájara, also took a moment to express gratitude for the involvement of partner organizations. He highlighted the event’s significance in promoting Pájara as a key location for cycling in the Canary Islands, attracting not only local but also international participants. This type of community engagement underscores the relationships between various organizations and the municipal government, all working toward a shared vision of enhancing local sporting events.
The Competitive Spirit Shines Through
The competitive atmosphere was palpable as finalists emerged in both the male and female categories. Marcos Manuel García Ortega, representing ULEVEL Camping Nauta, captured the victory in the men’s category, displaying skill and tenacity. Meanwhile, in the female category, Yurena Alonso Chinea of Club Deportivo Velosa took the crown, showcasing her undeniable talent and determination.
Noteworthy Podium Finishes
In the first stage of the men’s competition, the podium was filled by notable cyclists, including Héctor Alfaya González of Gran Canaria Bike Team who claimed second place, and Simone Butacci from Macebike in third. The second day saw García Ortega and Alonso Chinea repeat their impressive performances, with Derio Rodríguez Moreno from the club Tatlefulca Miguel León rounding out the top three in the final rally.
For women, the results were equally competitive. On day one, Yurena again led the pack, with challengers Icha Quevedo Cabrera and Caroa Rivero García following closely behind. On the final day, she maintained her dominant form, once again finishing first, with Ruth Ibáñez Ruiz and Carolina González Hierro joining her on the podium.
