The XI Jandía Bike: A Celebration of Strength and Community
A Thrilling Weekend of Competition
This past weekend, the Ayuntamiento de Pájara, in collaboration with the Concejalía de Deportes, hosted the XI Jandía Bike, an exhilarating event that has now become a fixture in the island’s sporting calendar. With approximately 250 enthusiastic participants flocking to the location for two days of intense competition, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and camaraderie.
Organizational Excellence
The Jandía Bike’s success is attributed to the seamless collaboration among various organizations, including Alisio Gestiones Sociodeportiva and the Club Ciclista Cofete. Held on the 11th and 12th of April, the event featured two summative tests designed not only to challenge but to showcase the resilience and capabilities of the riders.
The Challenges at Hand
The first day kicked off with a rigorous cronoescalada, a time trial spanning 8.5 kilometers that pushed participants to their limits. Riders faced steep climbs and challenging terrain, which tested their endurance and tactical skills. Following this, the second day presented a thrilling 46-kilometer rally, where participants raced against time and each other, navigating the picturesque yet demanding trails that the Jandía landscape is famous for.
Voices of Appreciation
José Benito Alonso, the councilor of sports, took a moment to acknowledge the tremendous effort displayed by all participants. His praise not only highlighted the physical toughness required to complete the course but also underscored the event’s growing stature within the cycling community, which continues to attract more competitors each passing year.
Adding to this sentiment, Alejandro Jorge, the mayor of Pájara, expressed gratitude towards the collaborating entities for their unwavering support in organizing the event. He emphasized the significance of such gatherings in establishing the municipality as a prominent hub for cycling enthusiasts in the Canary Islands.
Celebrating the Winners
In the highly competitive male category, Marcos Manuel García Ortega of the ULEVEL Camping Nauta club emerged as the champion, showcasing his remarkable talent and determination. Following closely behind were Héctor Alfaya González from the Gran Canaria Bike Team and Simone Butacci from Macebike, who rounded out the podium in the first stage.
The female category saw an impressive performance from Yurena Alonso Chinea of the Club Deportivo Velosa, who not only won the first round but also triumphed again during the rally. She was joined on the podium by fellow cyclists Icha Quevedo Cabrera and Caroa Rivero García on day one, while Ruth Ibáñez Ruiz and Carolina González Hierro stood alongside her during the second day’s ceremony.
A Bright Future for the Jandía Bike
As the XI Jandía Bike wraps up its latest edition, it leaves behind a legacy of athletic prowess and community spirit. Its reputation as a standout cycling event in the Canary Islands is further solidified, both for the breathtaking setting it offers and the exceptional level of organization that consistently brings it to life. The anticipation for next year’s edition already begins to build as competitors and supporters alike look forward to more thrilling moments on the trails of Jandía.
