Chef Rigoberto Almeida Unveils New Culinary Venture ‘19’ in Fuerteventura

In an exciting development for lovers of gastronomy, renowned chef Rigoberto Almeida, known for his culinary excellence at El Pellizco by Rigoberto Almeida in Costa Calma, is set to open his latest endeavor, ‘19’. The restaurant is scheduled to welcome guests on November 19 at the luxurious and recently renovated Hotel Golf Jandía, located in the southern part of Fuerteventura.

A Fresh Concept Inspired by Golf

The name ‘19’ carries a special significance, referring to the traditional 19th hole — a place where golfers unwind after completing a round of golf. Permeated with a vibe that is both relaxed and modern, the restaurant aims to present a playful, rock-infused take on contemporary cuisine that has solidified Almeida’s reputation as a pioneering chef in the Canary Islands.

Fusion of Cuban and Majorcan Culinary Traditions

‘19’ will showcase an audacious Cuban-Majoran fusion menu, providing a unique culinary experience that is both creative and accessible. The restaurant plans to operate uninterrupted from 12:00 to 20:00, making it an ideal spot for lunch, snacks, or cocktails, all complemented by breathtaking views of the ocean and golf course.

Tempting Dishes to Look Forward To

Almeida’s innovative menu features an array of standout dishes, sure to tempt any palate. Highlights include:

  • Laksa de langostinos y mojo verde: A fresh take on a spicy noodle soup, boasting succulent prawns.
  • Pan brioche de costilla de cochino negro con salsa barbacoa canaria y crujiente de arroz: A decadent brioche paired with local black pork ribs and a unique Canarian barbecue sauce.
  • Ensaladilla de almogrote y mojo negro con pescado del día a la parrilla: A modern twist on a traditional salad, incorporating Almogrote cheese and grilled fish of the day.
  • Piruletas de gamba e ibérico con emulsión agripicante: Delicious lollipops of prawn and Iberian pork, served with a spicy vinegar emulsion.
  • Polvito majorero con gofio: A dessert that pays homage to traditional Canarian flavors with a creative presentation.

Each dish creatively infuses island cuisine with technique and humor, making for an exciting dining experience.

Leadership Behind the Kitchen

Rigoberto Almeida will serve as the advising chef and creator of the menu, while Anais González, who previously helmed the kitchen at the original El Pellizco in Morro Jable, will lead the culinary team at ‘19’. The restaurant’s direction and wine selections will be managed by Yahimara Ferrand, Almeida’s partner both in life and in various culinary ventures.

A Varied Ambiance for Diverse Experiences

Spanning 350 square meters, the restaurant ‘19’ will present various atmospheres with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and golf course. Guests can choose from a covered terrace, a VIP area, a lounge equipped with billiards and darts, a cocktail bar, a menu designed for sharing plates, and a smoking room adorned with elegant Chesterfield sofas that conjure the ambiance of a classic British club.

Recognition and Acclaim

Almeida, a Majorcan-Cuban chef, was recently named Chef Revelación of the Canary Islands 2025 by the Guía Qué Bueno and has also received commendations from the Guía Repsol. His work continuously enhances his status among the leading figures in contemporary Canarian cuisine.

A Culinary Journey Without Boundaries

“’19’ is designed to be a free-spirited, fun, and edgy dining experience,” Almeida emphasizes, guiding guests to enjoy culinary creations with the utmost quality and creativity. The restaurant is not just about local flavors; it promises to be a vibrant space that encourages patrons to enjoy without rigidity.

As Fuerteventura adds this exciting culinary destination to its landscape, it will undoubtedly elevate the island’s standing as a hub of culinary excellence, innovation, and island spirit set against one of the most picturesque environments in southern Majorca.
