La Oliva’s Local Government Launches Major Projects for Community Improvement

The local government of the La Oliva Town Council has taken significant steps to initiate three key projects aimed at enhancing the municipality. These projects include the renovation of the cultural center in Lajares, the Accessibility Plan for El Cotillo—which encompasses the improvement of several local streets—and the refurbishment of children’s parks in Tamaragua and Geafond (Urbanización Parque Natural).

Investment Overview

Following the approval of these projects, which come with a total investment of €586,398, the Town Council plans to commence a public bidding process once the contractual documents are published on the institution’s Contracting Profile. The goal is to kick off the construction work in early 2020.

In the words of Isaí Blanco, the Mayor of La Oliva, these investments are crucial for continuing the improvement plans set forth by this governing body to enhance public spaces. He expressed optimism about the positive changes happening in the municipality. Pilar González, the First Deputy Mayor, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that these projects are strategically distributed throughout the community to meet the demands and needs of residents.

Current Investment Planning

As part of a broader strategy for investment, Oliver González, the Councillor for Works and Services, noted that more than €4 million in projects have already been approved this year. He highlighted several ongoing initiatives, including the rehabilitation of Calle Guirre, the canalization of rainwater, accessibility work on Calle Playa Cho León, and a resurfacing project on Travesía de Vallebrón. Furthermore, the municipal government is preparing to start the repaving of the road from Lajares to Majanicho, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to improving local infrastructure.

Accessibility Plan for El Cotillo

The first phase of the Accessibility Plan for El Cotillo is budgeted at €373,429 and focuses on creating accessible pathways in three key streets: Calle San Rafael, which leads to the cultural center and playground, along with Calle Marfolín and Calle El Águila, which provide access to the post office and cultural center. This initiative includes various enhancements, such as widening sidewalks with designated paths for visually impaired individuals, installing ramps to facilitate movement for people with reduced mobility, and renewing urban furniture, including benches, trash bins, and lighting. The execution period for these improvements is estimated to last six months from the project’s start date.

Renovation of the Cultural Center in Lajares

Another significant project involves the renovation of the cultural center in Lajares. This contract, valued at €97,089, aims to implement a refurbishment plan that includes enclosing the patio to ensure proper ventilation and essential rainwater drainage systems, as well as upgrading all interior carpentry. The expected completion time for this project is three months from the initiation of work, underlining a focus on enhancing community cultural spaces.

Renovation of Children’s Parks in Tamaragua and Geafond

The Town Council has also prioritized the renewal of children’s parks in the neighborhoods of Tamaragua and Geafond, with the bidding process divided into two lots: €69,350 for Tamaragua and €46,530 for Geafond. Initially, the plan involves dismantling the old equipment, followed by a comprehensive renewal that includes installing new play structures and updating urban furniture designed for children. The estimated timeframe for these renovations is two months from the start of the project.

By rolling out these projects, La Oliva’s local government seeks not just to enhance infrastructure and accessibility but also to foster a sense of community and improve the overall quality of life for residents. These developments reflect a commitment to not only addressing immediate needs but also investing in the long-term sustainability of public spaces in the municipality.
