The 20th Edition of Fuerteventura en Música: A Vibrant Celebration of Music and Culture
The anticipation is building for the 20th edition of the Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival, set to take place on July 3rd and 4th. Nestled in the charming town of El Cotillo, this year’s celebration promises a bustling program filled with music, creativity, and cultural activities that spread joy across various venues. With concerts slated for the stunning Playa de La Concha, attendees are in for a treat as they enjoy the unique blend of sounds and vibrant atmosphere the festival is known for.
An Inclusive and Free Experience
At the heart of FEM’s mission lies a commitment to offering an inclusive and free experience that blends music with themes of sustainability, environmental education, and cultural exchange. This philosophy encourages both locals and tourists to engage with the festival, creating a shared space for creativity and fun. The festival aims to foster a sense of community, making it as much about the people as it is about the performances.
Kickoff: Creative Workshops and Festive Parades
The festival’s activities will commence on Friday, July 3rd, at the Plaza Pública de El Cotillo. Here, festivalgoers can participate in a unique creative workshop titled “No tires nada, tócalo primero” (Don’t throw anything away, touch it first). Led by sound artist Alessandro Ferrato, this workshop invites participants to reinvent everyday discarded materials and transform them into musical instruments. This experience not only promotes artistic experimentation but also raises awareness about environmental stewardship.
As the day unfolds, the batucada group Corumba will animate the streets of El Cotillo with a lively parade, culminating at Playa de La Concha. This energetic procession is sure to contribute to the festive atmosphere, setting the tone for the weekend celebration.
Saturday: A Day of Diverse Sounds and Learning
The following day, Saturday, July 4th, activities shift to the Muelle Chico, where the collective Papaya Subtropical will lead an energetic music session. With a focus on contemporary global sounds and rooted music, this performance is bound to resonate with a diverse audience. For those eager to learn, a workshop on Afro-Guinean dance and percussion will be hosted by the Asociación Percusión Africana Fuerteventura, offering an immersive cultural experience.
The live music lineup that evening is not to be missed. Naby Zana Band will showcase their unique fusion of traditional African rhythms intertwined with Canary and Latin American influences. The emerging band Hey Chabón will light up the stage with their infectious mix of cumbia, reggae, and son, while Chocolate Sexy, a local project, brings its dynamic blend of rap and Caribbean sounds to the forefront. Concert attendees can expect an exhilarating array of performances that highlight both regional talents and global music trends.
Celebrating Local Talent
2026 brings a special feature to the festival: Pilar López, a distinguished local communicator, will serve as the official presenter. Her involvement enhances the festival’s connection to local talent and the vibrant cultural scene of Fuerteventura, underscoring the importance of community representation in artistic events.
Iconic Performances on the Main Stage
The main stage at Playa de La Concha is gearing up for an extraordinary lineup, featuring both national and international artists. Performers such as Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, Eskorzo, La Sra. Tomasa, Chanela Clicka, Marta Umpiérrez, and renowned musicians like Antonio Carmona, Pongo, Queralt Lahoz, Kumbia Boruka, and Arife will grace the stage. Additionally, DJ Woodhands will provide musical interludes throughout both days, ensuring that the energy remains high.
