On Thursday, April 23, the town of Tuineje witnessed a significant leadership transition. José David Herrera Ginory, the mayor of Tuineje, officially took the helm of the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Centro Sur de Fuerteventura. He succeeds Enrique Cerdeña Méndez, the former mayor of Betancuria, marking a new chapter for the consortium.
Meet the New President: José David Herrera Ginory
As the new president of the Mancomunidad, Herrera has expressed his dedication to continuing the work initiated by his predecessor. The consortium comprises several municipalities, including Antigua, Betancuria, Pájara, and Tuineje. Herrera’s focus is on enhancing public services, which includes key areas such as the welfare of minors, the municipal dog shelter, and the Day Center for Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
Commitment to Public Services
One of Herrera’s primary goals is to improve the services offered by the Mancomunidad. He specifically highlighted the need for better care and resources concerning the youth, emphasizing the importance of fostering safe and nurturing environments for children. Additionally, revamping the municipal dog shelter is on his agenda, aiming to promote responsible pet ownership and boost adoption rates, thus improving animal welfare within the community.
Strengthening Communication and Coordination
Effective communication stands at the forefront of Herrera’s planned initiatives. He aims to enhance how the consortium communicates the services it offers to residents. Improved transparency and accessibility to information will ensure that citizens are well-informed about available resources. Furthermore, fostering better coordination among the municipalities is a crucial aspect of his strategy. He believes that a cohesive approach will facilitate more efficient public service delivery, making it easier for citizens to seek support.
Gratitude for the Outgoing Leadership
In the transition ceremony, Herrera took a moment to sincerely thank Enrique Cerdeña for his year-long commitment to the Mancomunidad. Cerdeña’s leadership has laid a solid foundation. Herrera acknowledged the significance of Cerdeña’s work in guiding the consortium through various challenges, expressing his respect for the time and effort invested in advancing the community’s interests.
Looking Back: Cerdeña’s Accomplishments
Cerdeña reflected on his tenure, highlighting various initiatives that marked his time as president. These included professional training for workers in the youth sector, workshops concerning the management of feral cat colonies, and campaigns aimed at controlling local animal populations. His tenure also focused on enhancing the transparency of the Mancomunidad, ensuring that citizens had access to information regarding its operations.
Moreover, under Cerdeña’s leadership, substantial improvements were made to the Municipal Dog Shelter in La Pared. He spearheaded adoption campaigns and worked diligently to ensure that the shelter operated effectively, serving the needs of both the animals and the community.
Rethinking Internal Management
An important aspect of Cerdeña’s presidency was the development of critical negotiation tables. One of the standout achievements was the formulation of protocols addressing workplace harassment, the implementation of a telework regulation, and the establishment of roles within the organization. These initiatives aimed to bolster the workforce and enhance the operational efficiency of the Mancomunidad.
A New Era Begins
With the leadership change, the Mancomunidad is poised to begin a fresh chapter, prioritizing continuity and the enhancement of services. The collaborative spirit between municipalities will play a pivotal role in tackling challenges and improving the quality of life for residents in the Center-South Fuerteventura region. As Herrera steps into his new role, the municipalities look forward to a future characterized by shared efforts and bold visions for community development.
