Doramas Santana Triumphs with Two Awards at Competition
The inaugural Morphological Competition for the Majorero Donkey, held during the 38th edition of Feaga, celebrated the remarkable quality of three standout specimens from this native breed. In the male category, the donkey Tofio, hailing from Tiscamanita and owned by Doramas Santana, clinched the top prize after passing a rigorous morphological assessment.
On the other hand, the female donkey Niebla, owned by Francisco Bordón from Villaverde, secured the award in the female category. The second prize in this division went to Jandía, another exemplary donkey owned by Doramas Santana. This accomplishment showcases the high standards of his livestock as he took home two out of three prizes awarded in the competition’s inaugural event.
Thorough Assessment of Morphological Characteristics
The competition, which was organized through the cooperation of the Association for the Conservation and Promotion of the Majorero Donkey, involved a meticulous morphological evaluation of each donkey presented. Judges assessed a wide range of characteristics critical to the breed, including the distinctive crucial band on the back, known locally as the “cruzaditas” on the legs, and the overall height of the animals.
These specific traits not only define the breed’s aesthetic appeal but also hint at their adaptability and resilience, qualities that have made the Majorero Donkey an integral part of the regional heritage. Each donkey’s lineage, physical condition, and regal posture were closely examined during the competition, affirming the commitment to preserving these unique animals.
