V Edition of the Atlantic Salon of Logistics and Transport (SALT 2014)
The picturesque island of Fuerteventura is set to host the V Edition of the Atlantic Salon of Logistics and Transport (SALT 2014), scheduled to take place from November 19 to 21 at the Fuerteventura Technology Park. This event promises to be a significant gathering for professionals and stakeholders in the logistics and transport sectors, highlighting the region’s importance in maritime and land connectivity between Africa and Europe.
Collaboration and Preparations
Preparations for SALT 2014 are already in full swing. The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera, met with Rosa Dávila, the General Director of Transport for the Canary Islands Government, to discuss the event’s logistics and objectives. This meeting, accompanied by a tour of the bioclimatic building at the technology park, included notable attendees such as Natalia Évora, the Transport Counsellor, and Manuel Miranda, the Economic Promotion Counsellor. Their collaboration reflects the event’s regional significance and aims to enhance the infrastructure and operational capabilities of transport and logistics in the Canary Islands.
Objectives and Themes
SALT 2014 is organized by the Canary Transport Cluster and supported by the Canary Islands Government. It is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving connectivity between the Canary Islands and southern Morocco under the Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Program between Spain and External Borders. With connectivity to Africa, particularly through Tarfaya, as a central theme, the event will delve into numerous topics concerning logistics, trade, and sustainable transport.
International Participation
One of the notable aspects of this year’s SALT is the confirmed participation of several African nations, signaling strong interest in fostering trade relationships. Countries such as Germany, Turkey, and Bulgaria have also expressed intentions to send delegations, recognizing the potential of the Canary Islands as a strategic commercial hub connecting Africa to Europe. This international representation underscores the event’s significance and the growing interest in the islands’ logistical capabilities.
Synergistic Events and Greater Goals
In a statement to the press, Mario Cabrera emphasized the synergy between SALT 2014 and Africagua, another prominent event organized by the Chamber of Commerce, which focuses on clean energy and water desalination. The dual hosting of these events positions Fuerteventura as a crucial venue for business and institutional discussions with African countries. By fostering dialogue and cooperation, SALT aims not just to address transport logistics but also to align with broader sustainability goals.
The upcoming SALT event is set to be an exciting platform, bringing together professionals, government representatives, and businesses from diverse sectors. As Fuerteventura prepares for this momentous occasion, the eyes of the transport and logistics world will be on this beautiful island, poised to strengthen its role as a vital conduit for trade and connectivity between continents.
