Massive Participation of Insular Senior Centers
The Agricultural, Livestock, and Fisheries Fair (FEAGA) in Fuerteventura turned into a vibrant social gathering on the afternoon of April 17, attracting a remarkable 700 seniors from various municipalities across the island. This event, in its essence, has evolved into one of the most anticipated encounters of the fair, showcasing the lively community spirit of Fuerteventura’s senior citizens. Attendees included participants from all senior centers across the island, along with residents from the Puerto del Rosario Residence and Day Center, and the Josefina Plá Day Center in La Oliva.
As the attendees arrived, they were welcomed by prominent island authorities, prominently featuring Cabildo President Lola García, accompanied by Agriculture, Livestock, and Fishing Councillor Enrique Pérez, and Social Action Councillor Víctor Alonso. The presence of various other councillors and representatives from the major municipalities added a sense of solidarity and recognition to the event.

A Well-Established Folkloric Meeting in FEAGA’s Agenda
During the event, the insular president emphasized the meaningful nature of this annual gathering. “The traditional meeting with our seniors at FEAGA represents one of the fair’s most awaited moments,” García remarked, highlighting the cultural significance of the occasion. She further elaborated on how “it is important for them to meet and enjoy our customs and music through the customary folkloric gathering.”
The lively atmosphere was underscored by performances that showcased traditional music and dances, fostering a deeper connection between the older generation and their cultural heritage. This gathering served not only as a platform for entertainment but also as a means of preserving the rich cultural tapestry of the island, ensuring that younger generations appreciate and participate in their traditions.
Moreover, this encounter is an excellent opportunity for intergenerational bonding, allowing younger members of the community to engage with their elders. Such connections are invaluable in fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect within the community. It signifies the importance of maintaining cultural continuity within such gatherings, which is a crucial aspect of Fuerteventura’s identity.
As part of the festivities, various activities were designed to encourage participation from seniors, allowing them to express their creativity and showcase their talents. This inclusion not only boosts their morale but also enhances their quality of life, demonstrating that age should not be a barrier to involvement in communal activities.
