AMF Secures the Services of Jero Lozano for the Elections in La Oliva

Jero Lozano has made a significant return to active politics in La Oliva, marking a notable shift in the local political landscape. Recently, the Asambleas Municipales de Fuerteventura hosted an event at the Hotel Mirador to announce Lozano’s rejoining as a member of the AMF (Asambleas Municipales de Fuerteventura). This strategic move aligns with the party’s objectives in the run-up to the local and regional elections slated for 2027.

By bringing Lozano onboard, AMF secures a valuable electoral asset that fills a critical gap in its representation in northern Fuerteventura. Known for his previous tenure as a councilor, his deep involvement in football, and his commitment to community sports, Lozano’s political path has been anything but straightforward. His past is layered with a blend of achievements and controversies, making his re-entry into the political arena a subject of interest.

Lozano’s initial foray into politics was via the party En Marcha, founded by Pedro Amador for the 2019 municipal elections. The party garnered unexpected success by clinching four seats, establishing itself as a force in local governance. Lozano became a councilor under this banner and played a pivotal role in supporting a vote of no confidence against CC’s Isaí Blanco in 2020. However, his path soon became riddled with political strife, notably when he defied party leadership by remaining in office after Mayor Pilar González (Gana-PP) dismissed a key councilwoman.

In a notable turn, En Marcha made the decision to exit the governing coalition in a show of solidarity with their dismissed colleague. Despite this, Lozano chose to remain as a councilor until he too was dismissed in 2022. His removal from office was attributed to a loss of confidence from González, following his public assertions of dissatisfaction within the governing body and statements about aligning with a different electoral candidacy.

Amidst these developments, Lozano declared his intent to join Nueva Canarias and disseminated photos showcasing his connection to the party. However, his candidacy for the 2023 elections never materialized, suggesting a gap between aspiration and execution within his political endeavors.

The fallout from his dismissal further tarnished his public image, as the mayor later accused him of serious misconduct. Allegations surfaced regarding Lozano supposedly committing over 150,000 euros in unauthorized expenditure on projects, which escalated tensions between him and the mayor’s office.

After a period of relative obscurity, Jero Lozano is now re-emerging in local politics by officially joining AMF. His introduction to the party was marked by the presence of the party president, Juan Nicolás Cabrera Saavedra, along with other party members. Notably absent was the former Cabildo president, Sergio Lloret, leaving questions about his standing within the party and local politics.

In his first media appearance since returning, Lozano expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received on social media. He notably acknowledged the “likes” from community members who “are not afraid,” emphasizing the importance of trust in politics. His comments hint at a desire to reconnect with constituents while addressing past challenges, while positioning himself as a candidate for renewed faith in public service.
