This year marks a significant milestone for the Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival, as it celebrates two decades of uniting music lovers in the stunning fishing village of El Cotillo. What started as a night-time event has blossomed into a rich cultural experience, boasting an array of daytime activities alongside its musical offerings.

In 2024, the festival is set to expand its horizons, incorporating a variety of daytime options that promise to engage all attendees. Whether you’re looking to immerse yourself in workshops, take part in masterclasses, or learn about environmental awareness, FEM provides an inclusive experience that enriches the soul, all while being set against the breathtaking backdrop of La Concha beach.

Kickstarting the Festivities
The festivities begin on Friday, July 5th, with a spirited parade led by The Plunger Dixie Band, a seven-member ensemble known for their lively jazz and swing tunes. This will take participants on a lively procession from the town square of El Cotillo to the main stage at the beach, kicking off the celebration with a bang and setting the tone for the inviting atmosphere of the festival.
A Day Packed with Activities
The Saturday, July 6th, lineup is particularly exciting. Starting off at 12 PM, local percussion ensemble Pieles will host a workshop on Canary Island percussion in the public square. Following this, attendees can enjoy a DJ session from Papaya Subtropical, spinning a blend of African and Latin rhythms intertwined with electronic beats.
As the afternoon progresses, the schedule continues to captivate with a range of performances and interactive experiences. At 2 PM, participants can delve into the world of African rhythms and dance with a workshop led by Hermanos Thioune.
At 3 PM, the beats return with Papaya Subtropical, who will also facilitate recycling workshops tailored for children, making the festival an eco-friendly and educational experience. This is followed by energetic performances from Hermanos Thioune at 4 PM, and a dynamic DJ set from Zamundance at 5 PM featuring the talented duo Jeri and Alvarito. The day culminates at 6 PM with a captivating set from the group Son de Aquí y de Allá, who will bring contagious Cuban rhythms to enliven the atmosphere.

As Rayco León, the Cultural Advisor, articulates, the festival is deeply rooted in local culture and thrives due to the enthusiastic involvement of the Cotillo community through the Cotillo Joven Association.
