New Express Line 3: Transforming Public Transport in Fuerteventura
This Monday marked a significant milestone for public transport on Fuerteventura with the launch of the new Express Line 3. This vital service connects Puerto del Rosario, the Fuerteventura Airport, and Caleta de Fuste, aiming to streamline travel for residents and visitors alike.
Faster Journeys with Fewer Stops
The introduction of the Express Line 3 is designed to cater to one of the island’s busiest transport corridors. By reducing the number of stops, this new service promises quicker journeys for passengers. Three electric buses have been introduced, representing a significant investment of nearly two million euros, fully funded by the European Next Generation funds.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the island’s governing council, has emphasized that these modern vehicles provide full accessibility for all users. This initiative is part of a wider strategy by the Ministry of Transport and Mobility to modernize the island’s transport network, ensuring improved connections to key locations while also prioritizing environmental considerations.

Event Launching the New Buses
The launch event for the new buses took place on June 6 and featured notable attendees such as Lola García, the president of the Cabildo; Luis González, the Minister of Transport and Mobility; María Fernández, the director general of Transport and Mobility for the Canary Islands; David de Vera, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario; and César Fernández, the manager of ALSA Canarias. This gathering showcased not only the new vehicles but also the collaborative efforts behind this development.
Enhanced Weekend Services
The Express Line 3 offers a direct connection to Fuerteventura Airport, significantly reducing travel times compared to the conventional service. It keeps the regular weekday frequencies while bolstering offerings during the weekends. On Saturdays, the service will see an increase from 66 to 98 trips—an impressive 48.5% boost—while Sunday services will rise from 47 to 60.
This enhancement addresses requests from users, workers, and sectors such as hospitality that have long called for better connectivity on busy days.

Reducing Travel Time
Lola García, president of the Cabildo, expressed that the new express line is intended to cut down on travel times along one of Fuerteventura’s most heavily trafficked routes. This is particularly beneficial for those who rely on bus services for work, studies, or essential errands.
“The increased frequency during weekends responds to demands from the hospitality sector as well as from passengers,” García noted.
Luis González, the Minister of Transport and Mobility, highlighted the line’s design as being closely aligned with user needs, focusing on speed, convenience, and essential connections to key areas.
Maria Fernández added that the integration of electric buses represents a forward step in fostering a more efficient, punctual, and safe transport system that caters to citizens’ real needs.
Investment in Key Routes
The introduction of the Express Line 3 is part of a broader initiative by the Cabildo to strengthen several high-demand routes across the island’s bus network. In total, Lines 3, 16, and 5 will see an addition of 173 weekly services, necessitating the hiring of 18 new drivers and the undertaking of an extra 10,400 kilometers of service each week.
The Express Line extends the already popular Service Line 3, which runs from Puerto del Rosario to Las Salinas, enhancing it with this expedited service that now includes key tourist and transport hubs.
Line 16, servicing the route between Gran Tarajal and Puerto del Rosario via Antigua, will increase its services from 127 to 183 weekly, with a substantial jump from 13 to 27 services on Saturdays.
Additionally, Line 5 connecting Morro Jable to Costa Calma will see a 62% increase in frequency, reaching 220 weekly services, optimized to support the transportation needs of tourism sector employees.
Finally, Line 12 between Las Playitas and Gran Tarajal will add two new services at 15:45 and 16:00 hours, catering to student and worker schedules.
The improvements across these key transport routes aim to enhance overall mobility for island residents and tourists alike, fostering a more interconnected Fuerteventura.
