Fuerteventura en Música: Celebrating 20 Years of Cultural Diversity
A Milestone Anniversary
The Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival is gearing up for a monumental 20th edition on July 3rd and 4th, 2026. This event has become a cornerstone of cultural richness in the Canary Islands, and it will return to the picturesque coastal town of El Cotillo. This year’s festival will not only celebrate its legacy but also honor its beloved founder, Dania Dévora, who passed away in March.
Gathering of Influential Figures
The official presentation of the festival highlighted the breadth of support it receives from local leaders. Present were Lola García, president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura; Isaí Blanco, mayor of the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva; Rayco León, the island’s councilor of culture; and David Hernández, the cultural councilor. Their involvement underscores the festival’s importance as a cultural and artistic event that unites the community.
Upholding a Lasting Philosophy
During the event, García emphasized that the festival remains committed to the vision that Dévora established in 2004: a celebration of multiculturalism, environmental sustainability, and musical fusion. Before her passing, Dévora had taken the reins as the artistic director for this special edition. Following her legacy, her son, Sergio Miró, has stepped into this role, working alongside an enthusiastic organizing team to bring the festival to life.
Miró conveyed the enthusiasm his mother had for this anniversary edition, viewing it not simply as a reflective look at the past but as a jubilant celebration of the unique character FEM has cultivated on an international scale.
Cultural and Tourist Meeting Point
Isaí Blanco spoke about how FEM transforms El Cotillo each summer into a vibrant melting pot where music and nature coexist harmoniously, drawing tourism and cultural engagement together. Similarly, Rayco León highlighted the festival’s role as a cultural and social engine, fostering community bonds over the past two decades.
