The Ayuntamiento de La Oliva is gearing up for an exciting culinary and sporting event, PALADEA Fuerteventura, scheduled from May 7 to May 11. Under the baton of the Concejalía de Deportes, led by Gleiber Carreño, and in partnership with the Club Deportivo Caima and several other local organizations, this annual festivity promises an unforgettable experience themed around “Products of Our Land That Are Meant to Be Eaten.”

Culinary Delights: A Feast for the Senses

At the heart of PALADEA Fuerteventura lies its vibrant gastronomic agenda. This year, attendees can look forward to a series of dynamic showcookings, showcasing both traditional and innovative culinary techniques. Notable chefs will grace the event, including the talented Alberto Marín on May 9, and Michelin-starred chef Víctor Suárez, who will take the stage on May 10 alongside other culinary luminaries such as Ángel Lirio, Yareli Pérez Vera, and Jorge Carballeira. Expect a culinary masterclass from Marcos Gutiérrez, focusing on the art of fishing salting.

Traditional Competitions: Keeping Heritage Alive

The festival also honors Fuerteventura’s gastronomic legacy through friendly competitions. Participants can join the popular mojo picón contest and the puchero majorero contest, organized by the Asociación Fuertegourmet. These competitions not only emphasize traditional recipes that invoke nostalgia but also invite culinary enthusiasts to showcase their skills. The famous tapas competition, a highlight of the event, rewards creativity and taste with accolades such as Tapa de Oro, Tapa de Plata, Tapa de Bronce, and Tapa del Público.

Engaging Activities for All Ages

PALADEA is designed to cater to everyone in the community. The event will feature an engaging showcase of pellas de gofio and a special day dedicated to seniors, showcasing new interpretations of traditional dishes using local, sustainable ingredients. For families, there are exciting opportunities for children through PALADEA Kid workshops and experiences tailored for primary school students via PALADEA Colegios.

Tantalizing Beverages: A Toast to Local Brews

No culinary festivity is complete without drinks, and PALADEA will not disappoint. Attendees can indulge in a Victoria beer tasting, savor wines from local vineyards such as Tindama of La Oliva, Arautaba of Tenerife, and Piedras de San Pedro from Ribera del Duero. The event will also feature a masterclass on Arehucas rum, along with an exploration of the gin and tonic world by Royal Bliss tonic.

Sporting Events: Adventure Meets Community

On the sporting side, PALADEA Fuerteventura will include an array of exhilarating activities such as a 44 km mountain bike race, a challenging 32 km trail, and a scenic 10 km hiking route from Los Lajares to Villaverde. Two parkour exhibitions will also entertain and inspire attendees. Additionally, a local artisan market will offer handmade goods and crafts, showcasing the talent of local artisans.

Entertainment: Music to Enrich the Experience

To elevate the festive atmosphere, PALADEA will feature live music performances from notable groups like Los 600, Los Aseres, Escuela de Calor, DJ Maxi, and the Sabina Tribute Band – 500 Noches Banda, among others. This musical backdrop will enhance the vibrancy of the event as attendees mingle, eat, and enjoy all that PALADEA has to offer.
